Mahrukh Mehmood: Pakistan’s only certified student leader from USA’s Magna Publications

Mahrukh Mehmood lost her father when she was nine year old. It was a great trauma for her and her family but then her mother stepped out and started supporting the family financially. Being the eldest daughter, a lot of responsibilities fell on Mahrukh’s shoulders. She had to take care of her siblings and household chores which a nine years old child did not even know about.

“After each fall you need to rise up again and that was the biggest fall which I experienced at the age of nine years said” Ms Mehmood.

Mahrukh always wanted to do something big and impactful for her country and her dream turned into reality in November 2016 when she was selected for an international conference called the National Student Conference on Student Leadership (NSCSL) which was held in Florida. She got a scholarship for this conference and only 12 people were selected from all over the world. Mahrukh was the only Asian in this conference. NSCSL conference also provided her with a chance to visit NASA Canady Space Centre.

“I tried to create an impact through my personality and I feel proud that at least I tried to portray a positive image of my country at an international forum”she said.

Mahrukh was the only individual who was awarded with the lamp of legacy at the NSCSL conference. She also got a chance of speaking to 250 young leaders from the world, where she represented Pakistan. She gave a speech and showed a documentary of Pakistan.

“There were countless difficult times in my life and I believe that they developed me as a person and as an athlete. The place where I am standing now is result of effort and struggle which I made during those tough days of my life” said Ms Mehmmood

She worked as the youngest and first female programmer manager for Markhor 2015 which is Pakistan’s only Wilderness youth based leadership conference. Currently she is working as a program coordinator for CPEC youth development along the CPEC network in youth sector.

“The purpose behind all this work is to involve Pakistani youth in productive activities as more than 60% of the population comprises of youth. If we want to develop as a nation, we have to engage this segment of the society” she said.

Mahrukh is Pakistan’s only certified student leader from USA’s Magna Publications . She has more than two and half years of experience in corporate sector. Along with that she has more than five distinctions in sports at intervarsity and national level rock climbing championships. She also remained the athlete of School of chemical and material engineering (SCME) for last two consecutive years.

Mahrukh believes in leaving a legacy behind. She believes that if one is good at something he/she should teach that skill to other people. That particular good thing should not die with the person.
