"We should not depend on external sources for solving our issue of education."

Islamabad: Ehsam-Ullah- Baig was an ordinary child living an unambitious and easy life in a far flung area of Pakistan, Hunza Valley. Back in 2008 his father became patient of depression. This incident hit him so hard that it transformed Baig into a complete new individual.

At the age of 15 he dreamed of becoming a successful person and a role model when he saw his mother struggling to meet the financial expenses of the family.

“My mother became the source of inspiration. When I saw her working hard in the fields I decided to repay her by working hard in the studies “said Baig.

He started to work on a research paper during his college. The research paper “Effects of resonance on the suspension bridges” got published in an international journal known as International Journal of Linogistical Science and Mathematics.

“I became the youngest researcher but I was not playing an active role in the development of the community” he said.

This thought moved Baig to form a Non-governmental youth led organization called as Pakistan innovation summit for education (PISE) in 2012. He initiated his work with the opening of a small library in Nowshera for Internally displaced persons (IDPS).

“People often say that refuges and IDPS are the reason behind terrorism but we need to understand that they are the one most affected by terrorism ’’Baig said.

His hard work and consistency made it possible for more than ten thousand people to get benefit from the platform of PISE and almost 15 projects related to education such as Basta Project, Rahe-Taleem, summer camps and career counseling programs have been completed under the umbrella of PISE in different regions of the country.

“We should not depend on external forces for solving our small issues whether they are educational or other societal problem because if we work collectively then we can solve our small problems and matters” he said.

With the initiative of Basta project, PISE has distributed more than 5000 school bags among the IDPS. Currently this project is in its fourth phase and is aimed to distribute more school bags among the students of Waziristan and Meran Shah. PISE also remained successful in inaugurating two libraries one in KPK and other one in Gilgit Baltistan. It has also conducted teacher training programs in government schools of KPK. Career counseling sessions and life skill workshops have also being carried out through the platform of PISE.

A small organization with very few team members and limited resources was soon successful in gaining international attention and this was all possible because of the consistent efforts and dedication of Baig and his team.

“PISE has 55 Volunteers from six different countries which incorporate Germany, Cambodia, Turkey, Australia and Dubai. These volunteers assist in fund raising and awareness campaigns” he said.

PISE has also started to address other important issues such as health and social development. The reason behind this focus of shift is to ensure the equal growth of other sectors of the society.

We also want to expand our network and work on more sustainable projects which will cater other social and environmental and educational issues’’ said Baig.

Baig is hoping to introduce maker spaces very soon .Maker space would be a platform for students to test their ideas and projects. Students will get mentoring sessions in these spaces. Extraordinary projects and ideas will be sponsored as well.

“I also want to work on the loopholes of our educational system. Our educational system is not practical and based on rote memorization I want to fix that” he said.
